to assist a widespread application of lithium-ion batteries, it is important to simplify a manufacturing process for cathode materials. in this letter, we report a rapid synthesis of lini0.5mn1.5o4 spinel by mechanical process using an attrition-type mill without external heating. this method is a simple, energy-saving and scalable synthesis compared with the traditional solid-state reaction. moreover, the synthesized lini0.5mn1.5o4 powder was a granule consisting of nano-sized particles which has the potential to provide a high packing electrode. after mechanical synthesis, the anneal treatment improved the electrochemical performances of lini0.5mn1.5o4, retaining its particle structure.
